What Are Dermal Fillers?
The facial and lip fillers used at Bonato MD Aesthetics are hyaluronic acid gels. Different formulations have different properties, so product selection depends on the treatment area and the support, shape, or volume being considered.
Filler can improve selected concerns involving facial volume and contours, but it is not appropriate for every concern. Dr. Bonato will explain what treatment can realistically accomplish and when another approach may be preferable.
Common treatment areas include:

Treatment recommendations depend on your anatomy, goals, and individual assessment. Results vary.

Lip Filler and Lip Hydration: Before and Immediately After
These photographs show patients personally treated by Alexander Bonato, MD at Bonato MD Aesthetics in Medford, Oregon. The gallery includes Restylane Kysse lip-filler treatments and SKINVIVE lip-hydration treatments.
Treatment goals varied: some patients wanted subtle volume enhancement and a natural-looking result, while others prioritized hydration rather than additional volume. Product selection reflected each patient’s goals and individual assessment.
Each case involved one treatment visit, with the after-photograph taken immediately afterward. Swelling can affect fullness and shape, so these photographs show the immediate appearance rather than healed results or lasting hydration benefits. Individual results vary.
SKINVIVE use in the lips is off-label. Dr. Bonato discusses suitability, alternatives, uncertainties and risks before treatment.

Skinvive Lip Hydration
Skinvive is a hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable designed to improve skin smoothness and hydration rather than to add structural volume. It is a skin booster, not a traditional filler. In the lips and perioral area it is used to soften fine lines and improve the hydration and quality of the tissue itself, and some patients also see subtle softening of shape. If your goal is meaningful lip volume, lip filler is the better tool, and Dr. Bonato will tell you so.
Skinvive lip hydration starts at $450, performed by Alexander Bonato, MD with ultrasound guidance included. Which option fits your goals is decided at your free consultation. Results build gradually and vary from person to person.
Use of SKINVIVE in the lips or perioral area is off-label. Dr. Bonato will discuss the evidence, uncertainties, alternatives, and risks before recommending treatment.
Ultrasound-Guided Filler Injection
Dr. Bonato uses high-frequency ultrasound during filler treatment to visualize the blood vessels beneath the skin before product is placed. Facial vascular anatomy varies considerably between individuals — the textbook map is not always your map, and imaging shows where your vessels actually run rather than where they are expected to. The same imaging can locate previously placed filler, which matters if product ever needs to be dissolved precisely rather than broadly.
Ultrasound guidance does not eliminate the risk of vascular occlusion, and no technique does. It is one layer of preparation alongside slow injection, small volumes, appropriate depth, and hyaluronidase kept on site. Ultrasound is not yet routine in aesthetic practice, and it is included in every filler treatment here at no additional charge.
How Much Does Filler Dissolving Cost in Medford?
Dissolving hyaluronic acid filler starts at $300 per vial of Hylenex® (hyaluronidase), with ultrasound guidance included. How many vials you need depends on how much filler is present and how long it has been there, which is assessed at your free consultation.
Ultrasound matters more here than almost anywhere else: it lets Dr. Bonato locate the filler that is actually causing the problem so it can be targeted, rather than flooding the area and dissolving product you wanted to keep. Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers — it cannot dissolve calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or permanent fillers.
You do not need to have had your filler placed here. Many patients come to have work dissolved that was done somewhere else.

FAQs
-
Most hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvéderm®, last 6 to 18 months, depending on the treatment area, your metabolism, and the product used. Areas with more movement, like the lips, may break down slightly faster, while midface fillers tend to last longer.
-
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, and temporary unevenness can occur. Lip swelling may be particularly noticeable during the first few days, and settling can take longer than the initial visible recovery.
Allow recovery time before important events and follow your written aftercare instructions. Dr. Bonato will explain the expected timeline for your treatment area and when your result should be reassessed.
-
The goal is a result that fits your facial proportions and preferences. Dr. Bonato discusses the changes you want, the limits of treatment, and the amount of filler recommended before proceeding. No specific appearance or degree of symmetry can be guaranteed.
-
Discomfort is minimal. Comfort measures are tailored to the treatment area and your preferences. A dental nerve block is available for lip filler at no additional charge, significantly reducing pain or sensitivity during the procedure. Dr. Bonato will discuss the appropriate approach with you before treatment. Most patients describe the experience as pressure or slight pinching rather than pain.
-
Dr. Bonato primarily uses the Restylane family of hyaluronic acid fillers for lip and facial volume treatments. Different formulations are selected for different treatment areas and goals.
We also offer SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM as a separate skin-quality treatment. Its FDA-approved indication is improved cheek skin smoothness; its use in the lips or surrounding mouth area is off-label and is discussed individually before treatment.
-
Common effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and lumps or unevenness. Less common complications include infection and inflammatory reactions.
Accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause serious complications, including skin injury and, rarely, vision loss or stroke. Ultrasound helps assess anatomy but does not eliminate these risks. Dr. Bonato discusses risks, alternatives, and warning signs before treatment.
Seek immediate medical attention for vision changes, stroke symptoms, or unusual severe pain or skin discoloration after an injection.
