What Is Plasma Lesion Removal?
The PLEXR Plus® creates a small arc of ionized gas — plasma — between the device tip and your skin. That arc sublimates the lesion, converting it directly from solid to vapor. Because the device never contacts the skin and the effect is confined to the surface, treatment is precise and the tissue around the lesion is left intact.
Each treated point seals itself with a small carbon crust. That crust is the body's own dressing: it protects the healing skin underneath and separates on its own over the following week or two. Bleeding is minimal and the risk of infection is low.
The device holds FDA 510(k) clearance (K210693) as a Class II electrosurgical cutting and coagulation device, cleared for the removal and destruction of skin lesions. Removing benign lesions is within that cleared use.

Dr. Bonato treats benign, non-vascular lesions on the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and body.
Skin Tags (Acrochordons) — soft flaps of skin, often on the neck, underarms, or eyelids
Sebaceous Hyperplasia — enlarged oil glands, usually small doughnut-shaped bumps on the forehead and cheeks
Milia — firm white keratin cysts, most often around the eyes
Previously Biopsied Benign Moles — cosmetic removal of a mole already confirmed benign by laboratory testing (see below)

Because plasma removal destroys the lesion, no tissue remains for laboratory examination. For that reason Dr. Bonato removes a mole only when it has already been biopsied and confirmed benign. Any mole that is new, changing, or undiagnosed is properly evaluated first — never simply removed.

Most people describe a brief hot pinprick at each point. Injectable numbing may be applied. The treatment itself is quick — usually a few seconds per lesion.

Very little. You can return to normal activities the same day. A small dark crust forms at each treated point and stays for several days — that is the healing process working, not a complication. Plan around social events if you're treating a visible area.

It depends on where the lesion is. On the face, crusts typically separate in 5–10 days with the skin closed underneath by 7–14 days. On the trunk and arms it's closer to 10–14 days, and on the lower legs 14–21 days or longer. Healing is slower with diabetes, immunosuppressive medication, or blood thinners.

The risk is low when the crusts are left alone. Picking a crust off early is the single biggest cause of scarring after this treatment — it interrupts the new skin forming underneath. Follow the aftercare instructions and most sites heal without a visible mark.

Most lesions are removed in a single visit. Sometimes a second session is needed.

Only if it has already been biopsied and confirmed benign. Plasma destroys the lesion, so there would be no tissue left to test. If your mole hasn't been evaluated, that comes first.

Vascular lesions are not treated at this practice. Cherry angiomas, spider veins, and telangiectasias require a technology that targets blood vessels selectively, which plasma does not — Dr. Bonato will evaluate and refer you to the right provider.
