What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin using ultra-fine needles. This process activates your body’s natural healing response, prompting new collagen and elastin formation to repair and rejuvenate the skin from within.
The result? Improved texture, tone, and radiance with minimal downtime.
How Much Does Microneedling Cost in Medford?
Conventional microneedling with Collagen P.I.N., personally performed by Alexander Bonato, MD, costs $400 per session or $1,200 for three sessions.

Microneedling with Topical Serums
Interested in microneedling with exosomes? Dr. Bonato offers selected topical serums as an optional addition to treatment.
Products marketed as exosome or exosome-inspired serums differ in their ingredients and supporting evidence.
Before treatment, Dr. Bonato will explain the specific formulation, why it is being considered and its additional cost.
These products are applied topically and are never injected. Evidence for added benefits beyond microneedling alone remains limited and varies by product.
Microneedling for Acne Scars and Uneven Texture
Acne scars differ in shape and depth, which affects how they respond to treatment. Microneedling can improve the appearance of some depressed scars, particularly shallower scars, but it does not erase scarring. Deep, narrow ice-pick scars or scars tethered beneath the skin may need a different approach.
Dr. Bonato assesses your scars before recommending treatment. Your plan may involve a series of sessions, with improvement developing gradually as the skin remodels over the following months.
Read our guide to microneedling for acne scars for more detail about scar types, evidence, and realistic expectations.
Before scheduling, review microneedling aftercare to understand the recovery period and questions to discuss at your consultation.

FAQs
-
PRP is prepared from your own blood and contains concentrated platelets and their associated growth factors. Some studies suggest an additional benefit when PRP accompanies microneedling for acne scars, but the evidence has limitations and results vary. Dr. Bonato will explain whether adding PRP makes sense for your treatment goals.
-
Discomfort is minimal. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to ensure comfort. Most patients describe the sensation as light pressure or vibration rather than pain. Mild redness or tightness afterward is normal and typically resolves within a few days.
-
Redness, sensitivity, and tightness commonly last a few days, and dryness or flaking may continue longer. Recovery depends on treatment intensity and your skin’s response.
Follow your written aftercare instructions for makeup, exercise, sun protection, and skincare. Our instructions advise avoiding strenuous exercise and heat for 48–72 hours. Retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other active products require a longer pause than makeup; Dr. Bonato will guide your return to each product.
-
Improvement develops gradually. You may notice early changes over the first few weeks, while collagen remodeling continues over several months. More than one session may be recommended, particularly for acne scars. The degree and timing of improvement vary, and adding PRP does not guarantee a particular result.
-
Treatment frequency depends on your skin concerns, the treatment intensity and your response. A series may be recommended, with progress reviewed before deciding whether further treatment or maintenance is appropriate. PRP is optional and does not guarantee a particular outcome.
-
No. We do not administer stem cells or inject exosome products. Our optional topical formulations differ in their ingredients; “exosome” and “exosome-inspired” do not mean every product contains the same material. Dr. Bonato will identify the specific product and discuss its evidence and limitations before treatment.
-
There is no single duration that applies to every concern or patient. Improvement develops gradually, and its persistence depends on the condition treated, your skin’s response and ongoing factors such as sun exposure and aging. Maintenance recommendations are individualized rather than automatically required every six or twelve months.
-
We currently offer conventional microneedling with Collagen P.I.N. RF microneedling combines needling with radiofrequency energy; our Collagen P.I.N. treatment does not deliver RF energy. Dr. Bonato can explain whether the treatment we offer fits your concerns.
-
Candidacy depends on your skin concerns, medical history, medications, and healing history. Tell Dr. Bonato about active breakouts or infection, cold sores, a tendency to form raised scars, and any previous pigment changes after treatment.
Temporary redness, swelling, discomfort, and flaking can occur. Less common complications include infection and changes in pigmentation. Your consultation includes a discussion of your individual risks and alternatives.
